Tennessee School for the Deaf is a boarding school located in Knoxville, TN. Established in 1844, it boasts of a low student to teacher ratio. Serving students from Pre-K to 12th grade, it is only one of three of its kind in the state that serves deaf students. Students learn the standard state curriculum; they are taught by highly trained teachers who specialize in the needs of the hearing impaired. Utilizing state of the art equipment, the school prepares the students academically, emotionally and physically in order to meet the demands of society; the school provides vocational training as well. The school offers a sports program and students compete against other local schools. Athletics include football, track, volleyball and basketball. Occupation and Physical Therapy services are also available to all students.
