MORE ABOUT SOUTH CAROLINA BOARDING SCHOOLS
The South Carolina Department of Education's mission is to provide leadership and support so that all public education students graduate prepared for success. South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) wants to ensure a system of instruction that will prepare every graduate for a successful life after high school boarding school. The foundation for that instruction is effective classroom teachers and principals who facilitate personalized learning for every student, every day.
In South Carolina, students have several school options when it comes to their education. The School Choice Team in the Office of School Transformation works to provide support and resources to all stakeholders regarding the options available. Students who can select a choice option to best suit their educational needs have a more significant opportunity to excel. Some of the options available to students in South Carolina include Magnet Schools, Public Charter Schools, Boarding Schools, and Virtual Education.
South Carolina's definition for magnet schools is public, private, and boarding schools that offer a specialized curriculum not available elsewhere to produce graduates with world-class knowledge, skills, and life and career characteristics. Magnet schools/programs attract students from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds reflective of the district population.
South Carolina school districts must offer all eleventh-grade boarding school students the opportunity to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance assessment. Eleventh-grade students are students in the third year of high school boarding school after their initial enrollment in the ninth grade. Boarding school students wanting to earn a high school diploma are required to pass a high school credit course in science and a high school credit course in United States history in which the state's end-of-course examinations are administered. Currently, these courses are Biology 1 (science) and United States History and the Constitution (social studies). Ready to Work (R2W) is a career readiness assessment administered to all eleventh-grade boarding school students to determine student achievement in three key subjects: Applied Mathematics, Locating Information and Reading for Information.
South Carolina offers its boarding school students top academics while also giving them the chance to be adventurous. From mountains to midlands to oceans, South Carolina welcomes boarding school students to explore its beautiful state.
