MORE ABOUT ARKANSAS BOARDING SCHOOLS
Arkansas places education as a high priority; unfortunately, many high school students fall behind with their course requirements before graduation. Students must make the most out of their high school education, especially since the state is below average for government spending for each student. The Arkansas public school system (prekindergarten through grade 12) operates within districts governed by locally elected school boards and superintendents.
The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is committed to students exhibiting evidence of learning through three lenses of application: actively literate, critical thinkers, and engaged in the community. DESE developed Arkansas Academic Standards and courses that outline the academic expectations in the state.
Arkansas has been successful in improving access to education and in increasing participation in higher-level educational activities. More students attend pre-K, and high school graduation and college-going rates are higher than the national average.
Arkansas has solid policies and standards in place to support student outcomes. Arkansas has a long history of supporting education initiatives, working to establish standards and provide clear accountability since 1983. The state’s leadership should continue to strive for innovation and excellence when setting policies and standards for public school students.
High school students must complete the Arkansas requirements for graduation. The state currently requires a student to earn 22 credit units to be eligible for graduation. Of the 22 credits, 18 must be credits in English, math, social science, foreign language, fine arts, health, and physical education. Smart Core is the set of course requirements for all Arkansas public high school students. Because we know how important it is to graduate all students ready to succeed in college and career, students should check with a high school counselor for more graduation information.
Arkansas provides its boarding school students with top academics while also allowing them to be adventurous. Arkansas has beautiful mountain ranges to spelunking caves and even soaking in natural hot springs! Arkansas ensures its boarding school students will never get bored.
