Portsmouth Abbey School is a co-ed, Catholic boarding school in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

Originally Portsmouth Priory, due to an increase in size of its monastic community the schools name was changed to Portsmouth Abbey School in 1969.

Grades 9-12 are offered.

Portsmouth Abbey School has several traditions and rules the school has a quadrangle called “Holy Lawn” in the center of the campus which is used privately for commencement ceremonies and, which the students and staff are forbidden to walk on.

Portsmouth Abbey School is a member of the Eastern Independent League Abbey’s arch rivals include St. George’s School and Pomfret School. The school has a sailing, track & field and football teams.

“George’s Monday” is a major sporting event throughout the community shared with St. George’s School in which each schools varsity teams compete for the Diman Cup.
