The Athenian School, in Danville, California, is a college preparatory boarding school. Founded in 1965 by Dyke Brown, Athenian is located next to the wealthy Blackhawk Ranch development. The school has a professional casual dress code. Open to students from grades 6-12, Athenian is Co-ed and has been racially integrated from its founding. Accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), and WASC.

Extracurricular Activities

The school supports many extracurricular activities, including robotics, hiking, fencing, yoga, weight training and outdoor adventure, including the Athenian Wilderness Experience, a 26 day junior year outdoor personal discovery activity. A member of the Bay County League – East, Athenian fields teams in wrestling, soccer, volleyball, flag football, ultimate Frisbee, tennis, dance, golf, swimming, track and field, cross country, basketball, baseball, and badminton. Athenian is home to 450 students on 75 acres at the base of Mt. Diablo. Tuition is $33,516 for domestic day students and $34,516 for international day students, and $53,650 and $54,650 for domestic and international boarding students, respectively. The school’s mascot is the owls.
