Most of these schools are coed, with only three being all boys academies.

While most of boarding schools are secondary and above, there are also options that allow boarding students as early as 6th grade, with day school offerings for pre-K through high school.

New Hampshire is home to a broad range of boarding school options, including facilities with as few as 22 students, and as many as 1085.

The majority of the boarding schools in New Hampshire provide regular academic programs, but there are 2 that provide alternative programs, and 1 offering special programs. These schools provide educational options for students with learning differences like dyslexia, as well as academic programs that are designed to support children with ADD/ADHD. There is also one therapeutic school that addresses the needs of students who are dealing with anxiety, depression, and isolation issues. All three of these boarding schools are coed, and for grades 9th – 12th.

Traditional Options

The remaining 14 boarding schools in New Hampshire are traditional schools that focus on academic excellence. One of the most notable boarding schools is Phillips Exeter Academy, which is one of the top 20 boarding schools in the country. Exeter claimed this distinction in several different categories, including having the largest student body, highest students of color percentage, most sport and extracurriculars offered, and having high SAT and SSAT average scores. This boarding school is highly selective, and has an acceptance rate of less than 20%.

On the other end of this spectrum is the Hampshire Country School, which has only 25 or less students. This school provides a student teacher ratio of 2:1, providing an educational environment that ensures that students receive the one on one guidance that will help them reach their future goals.

The boarding schools in New Hampshire are some of the most prestigious, and highest rated schools in the country. While many of them have higher tuition costs, they also have higher percentages of students that are accepted to the colleges of their choice upon graduation.
